The Neousys thermal pad liquefies when heated by the CPU while springs push the CPU closer to the chassis heatsink for optimal heat transfer.
Besides being the most compact controller supporting Skylake LGA1151 socket CPUs (i5/i7), the Nuvo-5501 enjoys, @35W, a 46% reduction in CPU generated heat over the previous Broadwell platform. The DDR4-2133 memory, @1.2v, uses up to 40% less power than its DDR3 predecessor and has a 33% faster data transfer rate. By eliminating the fan, longevity is increased; one less moving part to fail.
